Getting around

Getting around Netanya: two train stations, city buses and the light rail plans

Netanya's two coastal-line stations, who runs the buses, the lines that link the south to the station, intercity options and what is (and isn't) happening with light rail.

Netanya sits on the coast 30 km north of Tel Aviv and 56 km south of Haifa (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Highway 2 splits the western and central city from the east, and routes 553, 531 and 57 link to Even Yehuda and Tel Mond, Kfar Saba and Ra'anana, and Kfar Yona (Hebrew Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

The train: two stations

  • Netanya station, 5 HaRakevet St, about 500 m from the Netanya Interchange (Highway 2 / Route 57). Opened in 1953; it serves the centre and east (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Listing.
  • Netanya-Sapir, in the south industrial zone, opened 5 November 2016. It is the nearest station for Ir Yamim, Ramat Poleg and Agamim (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)). Listing.
  • Beit Yehoshua station, just south of the city, also serves southern Netanya.

Direct trains run to Tel Aviv, Binyamina, Hadera, Herzliya, Lod, Rehovot, Ashdod and Ashkelon. For Ben Gurion Airport and other stations you change trains (Wikipedia (opens in a new tab)).

City buses

In the Ministry of Transport timetable (GTFS, published through Open Bus by Hasadna, weekday of 8 October 2026), Netanya's local lines (both ends in the city) are run by Extra (lines 1א, 10, 10א, 12, 25, 82, 83 and 92) and Kavim (lines 23 and 24) (Open Bus GTFS data (opens in a new tab)). Line numbers and routes change with each timetable update, so check live times in Moovit or on bus.gov.il (opens in a new tab). The Getting around page lists the stops near you and the lines that serve each one.

Regional and intercity

The city names Kavim (regional), Metropoline (intercity) and Yahalom shared taxis (regional) (City of Netanya (opens in a new tab)). Hebrew Wikipedia adds that Metropoline runs most lines to Gush Dan, Kavim most Sharon lines, Egged mainly Jerusalem and Haifa services, and Tnufa lines to the Shomron.

I couldn't verify the line numbers from the central bus station to Tel Aviv or Jerusalem, so check Moovit or the national journey planner. Pay with Rav-Kav; the apps page covers Moovit, Rav-Kav Online and the payment apps.

Light rail: planned, not running

In July 2023 the Transport Ministry announced two light-rail corridors linking Netanya to the planned Gush Dan metro, at about ₪25 billion, to be carried out by Netivei Ayalon. The east line would serve the employment zone and Kiryat HaSharon; the central line would run along Weizmann, Sderot Binyamin and Ben Zvi (mynet Netanya (opens in a new tab)). No opening date has been published.

The municipal transport page also carried a 31 August 2026 news item about preparation works for the Red Line along "the southern parts of the route" (City of Netanya (opens in a new tab)). Treat light rail to Netanya as planned or in preparation, not something you can ride.

On foot and by bike

The 2017 city master plan includes a network of bike paths, and walking and cycling along the beach promenades is common (Hebrew Wikipedia (opens in a new tab); Wikivoyage (opens in a new tab)). The sea elevator on the Rishonim promenade takes you down the cliff to the central beaches in about 20 seconds.
