Netanya is on the Mediterranean about 30 km north of Tel Aviv, with about 8 km of clifftop promenades, lifeguarded beaches and a busy central square. Most hotels are on or near the seafront around Kikar HaAtzmaut (Independence Square).

Start at the tourist information kiosk
The Netanya Association for Tourism runs a kiosk on Kikar HaAtzmaut and the GoNetanya website in English, French and Russian.

Pick a lifeguarded beach
Netanya has 9 declared bathing beaches. In season they are guarded from 08:30 until half an hour before sunset; out of season only Sironit A has a lifeguard. Swimming without a lifeguard is forbidden.

Take the sea elevator
The glass lift on the Rishonim promenade takes you down the cliff to the central beaches in about 20 seconds.

Arrive by train
Netanya and Netanya-Sapir stations are on the coastal line, with direct trains towards Tel Aviv, Rehovot, Ashkelon and Binyamina.

Plan around Shabbat
City and intercity buses and trains do not run from Friday afternoon until Saturday evening; check last departures on Friday.

Visit the city museum
The Netanya City Museum at 3 McDonald St tells the story of the city and arranges guided tours in several languages.

Book a day trip north
The Alexander Stream turtle bridge, Utopia orchid park and Caesarea are all a short drive north of the city.

Sanz Beach is gender-separated and closed on Shabbat and holidays. Some Kikar HaAtzmaut restaurants close on Shabbat, so book Friday-night and Shabbat meals ahead.
